Job description

We are seeking a patient-focused Medical Assistant to support providers and day-to-day clinical operations in Watertown, South Dakota. This position combines hands-on patient care with administrative coordination and requires strong communication, organization, and attention to detail.

The Medical Assistant will prepare patients for visits, obtain health information and vital signs, assist with testing and minor procedures, maintain accurate medical records, and help coordinate follow-up care.

Responsibilities

  • Welcome patients, confirm demographic and health information, document medical histories, and identify the reason for each visit.
  • Obtain and document vital signs, including blood pressure, temperature, and weight.
  • Prepare patients, examination rooms, and treatment areas for scheduled visits.
  • Assist providers during physical examinations, minor procedures, and other clinical services.
  • Support laboratory testing and perform phlebotomy-related duties as appropriate.
  • Provide instructions for specimen collection and required testing.
  • Administer injections and prescribed medications under provider direction and within applicable scope-of-practice requirements.
  • Maintain complete, accurate, confidential, and timely electronic medical records.
  • Assist with diagnostic and procedure coding responsibilities as assigned.
  • Coordinate diagnostic testing, treatments, specialist referrals, and required pre-authorizations.
  • Maintain clinical supplies through inventory monitoring and ordering.
  • Help ensure equipment remains functional by following maintenance procedures and reporting repair needs.
  • Follow clinical policies, professional standards, safety procedures, and regulatory requirements.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program or currently working toward program completion.
  • Administrative experience, preferably within a medical office or healthcare environment.
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate professionally and empathetically with patients.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple responsibilities and work independently.
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft applications and other common workplace technology.
  • Ability and willingness to learn electronic medical record systems and patient communication platforms.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions accurately.
  • Professional demeanor and ability to work effectively as part of a healthcare team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous administrative or clinical experience in a medical office setting.
  • Familiarity with electronic medical record systems.
  • Previous experience supporting patient intake, phlebotomy, laboratory testing, or clinical procedures.

Compensation and Details
